Yeah, I know, it doesn’t flow as well as ‘Taco Tuesday’ or ‘Thumbs-up Tuesday’ but when someone or something is deserving of a feel good shout out, I’m sure as heck gonna shout it! (But seriously, head over to H’s Thumbs-up Tuesday post too because she’s making some awesome, life-changing things happen that you’ll definitely want in on.)
My dear friend Tom is a rock star. No, he isn’t a rock star in the literal sense, but he is a cancer crushing, charity supporting, FlyWheel dominating, all around extraordinary individual that anyone should feel honored to be in the presence of (and he
forces makes his wife swoon over his flabdomen loss, so that totally counts towards rock star status, right?!)
Tom’s current crusade is raising money for a wonderful little girl, Isabella Santos, who passed away just a year ago after a 5 year battle with Neuroblastoma.
For almost five years, Isabella defied the odds. In 2007, Isabella was diagnosed with a rare form of childhood cancer called Neuroblastoma. Neuroblastoma is a rare and deadly cancer that affects approximately 750 children a year. The survival rate for children diagnosed with high risk Neuroblastoma is less than 40% and less than 5% once the child has relapsed. However, countless doctors called Isabella a miracle. Relapse after relapse, she kept fighting…and kept beating it. Unfortunately, in June 2012, her parents were told the cancer had returned and this time, it would be relentless. Isabella’s fight ended on June 28th, 2012.
I strongly urge you to watch the video below to learn more about Isabella and her Foundation.
Tom’s goal is to raise $5,000 dollars for the Foundation and run in the Rock N Roll Savannah 1/2 Marathon this fall in her memory. What he’s doing is important. What her Foundation is doing is important. And your participation in this is important, too. As some added incentive (in case giving to a deserving charity or helping out a kick-ass gentleman wasn’t incentive enough) anyone who donates to his cause this month will be entered into a drawing to win a Kindle Fire HD Tablet (that’s like a $199 value!).
So, with all that being said I want to challenge you all on this Tuesday to do something good and if you’re able to, donate to this cause by clicking here.
If you aren’t able to donate monetarily (or are like me and will take any excuse to do something good for a charity WHILE running) but live in the Charlotte area, then come join us of September 21st for the 6th annual 5K Race for Kids Cancer at the Ballantyne Corporate Park!
